The Collectors- an improvised collection of stories
Lindsay is creator, director and performer in this new improvised show.
The Collectors is a 100% improvised online show of 45mins. The audience gives a suggestion of an object, and said suggestion is used as the inspiration for a devised in the moment show and then the magic happens from there!
The first actor improvises a monologue as a collector of the suggested object. Then when finished, two new players do an improvised duo scene based on the monologue. The scene can sometimes be directly related to the monologue, in the theme of the monologue, or a tangent from the monologue. After the duo is finished their scene, a new monologue is begun utilising the duo scene as inspiration for a new object that the monologist collects. And so, it goes from monologue to duo scene until all actors have had a turn at monologing. Themes and stories organically arise, and an audience is spellbound as stories are made up on the spot to create a funny and theatrical rhapsody.
This show ends up being a hilarious journey through our relationship with collecting, our relationship with objects and our relationships with others. Each scene flows on from the next twisting and turning it its direct or indirect relationship to the scene before it, creating a mesmerising tapestry of characters and story vignettes.
This show debuted at Improv Hub’s Duos Graduation Show September 2021 as the headlining show to a private online audience of 50 people.
This show is in pre-production for an ‘in real life’ staged version.
This show is also in concept development for a musical version.
